Extreme Weather: Jerusalem Edition

Of course now that Ami's left his job and we decide it's time to play tourist around here, the storm of the century descends. Bye bye plans, hello sheets of rain non-stop since Monday night. And it's supposed to snow maybe maybe this afternoon here in Jerusalem.                          The good news is I didn't pack and send Eitan's real Bubby approved waterproof, fleece lined winter coat in a suitcase to America that someone offered to bring over for us last week. Although we haven't needed it, even close until this week, I figured we will need it the second we arrive in NY and I wanted to have it with our carry on stuff in case it should get lost. So one point for mom.                                                                        And about this weather- no, it's nothing compared to the hurricanes and snowstorms that we're used to at home. This is big here, the main highway to Tel Aviv is closed because of flooding, train stations are flooding, people are without power, a meter of snow has landed on Mount Hermon and schools in Jerusalem are all closing today at noon. So it's a big deal for here, this country that is not built for cold and serious rain. At home we have real heat that works as opposed to space heaters and buildings that are meant for cold weather, and a car.

Oh, our car, while walking the 7 minute walk to Eitan's school with him this morning where he demanded (adorably) to splash in every puddle while sheets of rain and little circles of hail came down, all I could think about was going down our elevator in DC into the indoor garage, getting in the 4 wheel drive mom mobile and going where ever we need to go...a girl can dream, right?

If you don't believe me about the weather hysteria, check this out.  So here are some snapshots of Eitan all ready to go this morning. And no, I don't have gloves for him. Instead I put socks on the poor kid's hands this morning. But I did not take a picture as photographic evidence is just too much to bear. And yes, I promptly went to childrensplace.com and ordered a pair of gloves sent over ready upon our arrival.

In other news, in the pro/con list of reasons to stay in Israel, better weather has now been removed. Until the summer when I will be dreaming of the humidity free heat and evenings that cool down. Or in two weeks when we're back in the US in the freezing cold and normalcy has returned here with sunny mid 50's days...
